Collection: Field Studies

This series consists of individual works derived from the wider body of satellite imagery that informs projects such as Eighteen Pumpjacks and Fields.

Each work isolates a fragment of a larger system, shifting the focus from the landscape as a whole to its individual components.

The United States has a vast industrial network of pumpjacks that stretches across deserts, farmland, and urban edges. Each is identified by a unique American Petroleum Institute (API) code. Originally explored in Eighteen Pumpjacks (2012), this series presents individual wells as singular units. These prints are produced at the same scale and using the same materials as the original works held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC. Each print is unique with prices indexed to the oil market.
