In the late 1950s, Taiwanese artist Li Yuan-Chia began to develop the Cosmic Point, a visual element representing the symbolic image of the universe from a small calligraphic mark to a small circle. “In 1959, my first [Cosmic Point] painting was a tiny black dot on a white square of canvas,” he later wrote. “Nothing could be simpler than that.”
